  Springs

Ok guys I have a Versa hatch with 215-45/R17's. I'm looking for a good spring to help with handeling and also to reduce wheel gap. Out of the springs i found which are Tenabe, Eibach, and Megan Racing which one is the "best spring"?

Megans have the lowest drop but you will most likely not enjoy the ride and only find the stiffness useful in auto-x or something. Tanabes would do the best job imo.

My car is not lowered though due to the horrible roads, holes, and steep grades around here. The bottom of my bumper is scraped up some at just stock height. So is the part of the frame on the passenger side where the spare tire jack would sit and the rear tow hook Imagine lowered

We have a lot of crappy roads here but it doesn't stop me from installing them. Definitely get Tanabe's, I like them. Take it easy over curbs, speedbumps and dips. If you have 5 people riding and luggage, then go slower. Other than that, you should be fine.

here in B.C we get quite a bit of rain in the Fall/Winter months. Those pot holes are near impossible to see as they are filled with water, I rattled my teeth more then once

90% pf our forum members use them without a single complaint, I guess they are the best bang for the buck.

To give you an idea what it's like here, I go slow with 5 people at stock height. I didn't predict all these scrapes and whatnot otherwise I wouldn't have them. 90% of roads here are cracked, uneven, and patched. I thought about the idea of lowering it though because I would love the look and increased handling but man these roads suck so hard, I'm waiting for the stock tires to wear out so I can put on something smoother and maybe slightly taller. There's one little division around here that has potholes EVERYWHERE with some being literally 2 feet wide. And when it rains, it sucks worse because it does make it hard to spot them. I'm actually considering a mini 4 cylinder SUV after I've driven the crap out of this Versa to hopefully 200,000 miles or more.

That BS, roads shouldn't dictate what type of vehicle you have to drive. We have a lot of SUVs around here too, but I don't want one because it uses too much gas and costs a lot. Not worth the cause of trouble, plus hatchbacks look better IMO.

I wish local state governments would spend their money better than wasting it on useless ****. Fix the basics before spending our tax dollars on other junk.

Roads shouldn't dictate what we drive but our state doesn't keep up with roads worth a damn. And where does this use too much gas thing come from? My fiances 98 CR-V averages 25 mpg mostly city driving. You tell me how many full size cars can even get that. And it has a lot more "hatch" than a Versa. And it did ride smoother until I stuck stiff V rated tires on it but now it handles well. To give you an idea, my friend who is way into modding his Eclipse (has exhaust, cai, intake, projectors, tails, etc) is even deciding wether or not he should lower it because he complains about his car bottoming out stock. My guess is that 99% of people on this forum have it a lot better than we do. I drive one state over and bam; roads are nice, clean, and smooth. It's retarded.

Haha. Well my old Dodge Neon made it to 215,000 miles and technically it still ran but the speedometer quit working and I didn't wanna mess with it anymore. It's been t-boned, run into a rut, hopped over a curb, redlined blowing away ricer Civics and whatnot, etc. Now I don't do that with my Versa but I don't baby it

And about the 25 mpg city in the CR-V, I think that's great mileage considering the size and weight of that vehicle. My Versa was hardly doing any better when I first got it but now I get about 29 mpg average. Both averages are a lot better than full size trucks that get 15-18 mpg. She doesn't spend much more in gas for that CR-V than I do for my Versa.

I wouldn't get a Honda, had a bad aftertaste with my last one.

The Nissan Rogue wouldn't be a too bad investment if you're into those types of vehicles.

The Rogues are nice but they seem to actually be more expensive. And everyone's experience varies. I think our 98 CR-V is great. It's efficient (for weighing way more than a Versa) and it has no problems except the usual for having almost 160,000 miles. The drivetrain is in great condition. I'm no Nissan fanboy. I have a Versa because of how much car it was for the money compared to other cars like the Civic, Corolla, and even an Elantra but yet a CR-V is about the same price as a Rogue new and cheaper used than a used Rogue . I keep my options open but GM, Ford, and Chrylser are not in those options. Their cars do not appeal to me and they seem to have more problems than most.

Does lowering a Versa improve handling (cornering flatter, etc) or is it mostly cosmetic? I just found out about the swaybar/braces (need to hang out here more) and understand those, but what about lowering?

Yes it improves handling, especially turning. Swaybar and braces are for stiffening the turn, will make the car lean less when making sharp turns. Lowering springs, stiffen ride, improve steering etc...

Everyone is different. And I've looked at the Rogue. But personally, I still like the Cr-V's better. The Rogue doesn't appeal to me at all, and it looks funny, so does the Murano. I love the one I have now. Its really great, and gas.. well it actually exceeds the epa for my model. It's got a pretty roomy hatch (not space like the fullsize huge suvs). The handling is good, especially with the wheels and tires i just put on it from a Mitsu. And besides what prolly just a basic matinence (since its almost to 160k miles) the engine and tranny are really good still.

If i didn't get another Honda, I'd probably get the Chevy Equinox or Toyota's Rav4. If I ever got a Nissan again, I'd drop back down to a car and get a Cube. But i'm satisfied with a suv, and right now I plan to just get another CRV with 50k or less for a good price.

It is do or die for the Big 3, especially GM/Pontiac. Years of crappy quality and boring designs have caught up to them in a big way.
